Internet High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

[ English ]

Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest bettors around the world. While competing in online poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found playing net poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in cash games?
