Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
