NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
