The Recorded History of Poker Chips

Casino chips have been made from a wide selection of materials in an almost infinite selection of variations since the birth of wagering and the requirement to keep an eye on winnings. The most familiar components used at present in the manufacture of new poker chips are plastic, clay composite, and acrylic composite. Clay chips, the original of the bunch, have been manufactured in the US since the late 1800s.

Back in the 1800s, poker players appear to be using any tiny item with value you can imagine. Early poker players occasionally used jagged gold pieces as well as chips – chiefly manufactured of wood and clay. By the 1900s, poker chip features began to play a greater prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips were given up to chips with engraved slits to keep them neatly stacked with each other.

There is little or no doubt that poker has grown steadily in universal appeal since its beginnings in the 1800s. With the explosive growth of web gaming and unique TV shows, public interest in poker has accelerated faster than ever before. Most people are first introduced to poker by television showslike Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and most will participate in their 1st hands on the internet. Regardless of internet poker’s growth, nothing replaces the feeling of mixing weighty poker chips in your hands, throwing chips into the middle of a casino table, or stacking tall pilesstacks of chips after displaying a winning hand.
