NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
